The Irish narrowly avoided what would have been a devestating loss to Georgia Tech by pulling out a 14-10 victory down in Atlanta. Is it just me or do the Irish always seem to play to the level of their opponent? While this can be a blessing at times, (ie. the USC game last year.) it can also be a curse. Why can't we put away a completely overmatched opponent? 14-10 over Georgia Tech? I don't buy the stories that GT's defense was so great or even that it was first game jitters. The game was in Atlanta? So what! The Irish have been preparing for that all summer. Weiss needs to be a catalyst for confidence. We saw flashes of it last year but they looked to be back to their old ways Saturday. On a positive(ish) note; the Irish defense in the second half, needless to say left me pretty impressed. While I bellieve that this was just the confidence booster that the defense needed to be solid this year, I think it would have been a different story if the CIA hadn't put Calvin Johnson into the witness protection program at halftime but apparently they did a good job because the Tech offensive coordinator completely forgot about him and the quarterback couldn't seem to recognize the one guy who was absolutely killing the Irish defense in the first half. Result? - 14-10. Irish 1-0. Georgia Tech 0-1. Thank you CIA.
With football officially underway it's time to touch on the Indianapolis Colts. With another pitiful pre-season out of the way it's time to get serious. 13-0 again? Doubt it. Last season Indy started with something to prove. That took them to 13-0. This year the Colts realize that it is a long season, they know they are good, and because of that I think they will have a few more losses in the regular season because they know that this year its about the postseason. Count on them winning the division again but perhaps with a few losses to teams they should have beat. As for the superbowl, yes I think Indy will represent the AFC this year. Beyond that, I have no predictions. Let's see how this year plays out.
