time...

so...two undefeated teams left. will they stay that way until they meet? All I can say is the patriots are scary. of course we haven't seen them play a team with a good defense but who would you say has the best defense in the nfl this year?........ exactly, you can't really think of any extremely strong defensive teams. maybe pittsburgh but still, they lost to arizona right? anyway, we can only hope that the colts can maintain a strong, balanced game with a high scoring offense and a steady defense. At least put some pressure on brady which he hasn't seen all year. i guess that's it for now. i must say i am impressed so far with the patriots i just hope that brady doesn't break manning's record. that would be painful.

march madness

i guess i don't really know what to say except my picks this year have left me basically no better off than my picks in this picture.

I even filled out a bracket in which I picked the entire first day perfectly only to be completely dismantled the next day. Living in the dorm has added an entirely new element to march madness because we have a pool of almost 40 guys. It has definitely added something to the whole experience. I think I am next to last even though if you just would have picked the top seeds you would have had the elite eight perfect except for oregon...the only not number one or two to make it that far. Also, tannia and I each filled out a bracket just for fun to see who would win. Kind of reminds me of SNL last night with Peyton Manning where the girl picks teams because they are cute or the "right" color...haha...but actually tannia and I are almost neck and neck so far and if Georgetown wins today she has an excellent shot at beating me. I guess we'll see. anyway...fun fun. and yes, madness.

super bowl champions.

I'll take ugly. I wonder if the hype around Peyton Manning will die down some. The main publicity he got was negative talk of how he was just another Dan Marino. (Besides, of course, his commercials.) He was famous for being great but mediocre when it counted most. What this season says to me is that no one person should ever be labeled as can't win or the reason they did win. You can't win unless your team works together. This was the year that it all came together for the colts. And next year will be the second year in a row that it all comes together for the colts. (it slipped) Well, due to the fact that none of the teams I have rooted for have ever won a championship or even played for one since I have been a fan, I am unsure of how to feel or what to do. It makes this win seem very surreal. Now don't get me wrong, I am very happy and am slowly getting used to the idea that we are unquestionably the best team. I will admit with EVERYONE picking the colts to win I was very nervous. Especially reflecting on how EVERYONE also picked the saints to win against the bears and look how that turned out. But apparently the colts new that they were going to win and imposed that knowledge on the bears by controlling the clock and the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball while shattering every stereotype that the colts have ever been labeled with. As soon as the game ended I felt excited for next year. It will be harder but to understand what it takes to get to the Super Bowl and win it makes me think that if we can just get to the playoffs next year (ie. New England after their first, and Pittsburgh this year), we will have an excellent shot at two in a row. Our division looks like it will be a lot tougher next year but who knows. I actually think Tennessee will take a step back despite how everyone else thinks they are gonna be contenders...but that is another story. Thats it for now...Super Bowl Champions.

Life with out sports?

How many jobs are created because of sports? (A lot) What is the overwhelming draw of sports? Why do we get attached to a specific team or a group of teams that we rise and fall with? I have begun to realize that as my team goes so I go. I get mad when "we" lose or feel proud when "we" win! I am wondering why this is? How can a society place such an emphasis on a game or several games? I don't think that sports are evil by any means but perhaps the Church could learn a thing or two from sports in America because it seems that a lot of people follow sports more religiously than religion. When this started or how it has become such a god in our society is something that I haven't researched but I am sure that a lot of it comes from the need for community that people were created with and yet can't find in our churches. Sports have become more of a common ground than christianity even with in the church. Think about it, when people are at church they are just as likely to talk about that days games or Saturdays games as they are about G-d. Why is this? I would venture the guess that even with in our churches there are so many different views on G-d and the level that he is apart of our lives that we feel more comfortable talking about something like sports where even if we don't agree on the teams that we like we can still more easily converse about those teams than we could about where our faith is or what our struggles are. What is the root of this problem? What are the solutions? True community. I dont' know how that can be reached or what will head us in that direction. The only thing that I know is that I need to be the change. Well this was certainly a different sort of post but there you have it.
